Johnny Micalusi,
a praise to the Mediterranean

16 February 2023

In the heart of Rome you can breathe in the sea air and taste the flavors of the freshest fish on the Lazio coast.

Some people claim that on the streets of Rome one can stroll through eternity among the sounds and melodies of the ancient triumphs of one of the most powerful civilizations in history while some feel the scent and the melodies of the sea, to be exact right in Viale dei Parioli.
At the entrance to the Johnny Micalusi restaurant, we are immediately struck by the variety and abundance of fresh fish and extreme care to awaken the palate of the diners through display.
We are seated in a large room that embraces us in the warmth of the soft lights and the elegance of the essential wooden ambiance, where the owner Johnny Micalusi sets us ready for a unique food experience. According to him, meeting your diner is the key to a successful restaurant and to do so he religiously adheres to what he calls "the 3 commandments" of the restaurant business.
Speed is the first element that makes a dinner successful. Being ready to serve ensures that the gastronomic experience is fluid and has no waiting times between one dish and another.
Secondly, a successful restaurant must be generous, bringing to the table portions that satisfy the diners and make them leave with a smile of satiety on their faces.
The last but not least, is quality: working with fish since childhood, unloading crates at the port of Ponza, Mr. Micalusi knows well that he needs no sophisticated dishes to impress because the taste of the see is hidden in the precious ingredients.

So let's taste some dishes based on today’s catch from the Mediterranean such as Red Shrimp Carpaccio, Tuna Tartare with mashed potatoes, and the Gran Sea Food Plateau.
We continue our journey across the sea of Terracina, enjoying unparalleled first courses such as Red Shrimp Gnocchetti with Datterino tomatoes and Pecorino cheese, Clam Spaghetti, as well as breathtaking second courses such as Lobster Catalana, San Pietro with cherry tomatoes and olives and Fried Squid, Shrimp and Paranza (small-sized fish).
The wine list is a triumph of fine national and international labels designed to accompany and complement the authentic flavor of the sea. Water is a great star on the table of Johnny Micalusi who chooses the balanced lightness of San Benedetto Millennium Water Antica Fonte della Salute coming from the ancient aquifer and containing only 0.0001% of nitrates. Elegant 0.65L bottle fits perfectly into the warm and essential ambiance of the room.
Our experience at Johnny Micalusi left us full and made us discover a new temple in Rome dedicated to the immortality of the true flavor of the sea.
