Our journey begins in Mazara del Vallo, where the evocative alleys of the Kasbah reveal the city’s Arab heritage. From there, it follows the coastline to Selinunte, home to some of the most impressive remnants of ancient Greek civilization, before reaching Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples, where the itinerary finds its perfect conclusion at the table, celebrating the rich flavors of Sicilian cuisine.
An enchanting crossroads of cultures
Overlooking the Mediterranean, Mazara del Vallo still bears the marks of its past as a maritime city and a meeting point of cultures. We venture into the most authentic heart of the town: the Kasbah, a maze of narrow streets, arches, and courtyards that preserves the legacy of Arab rule and takes visitors on a journey through centuries of cultural exchange.
A bite for lunch
In the heart of Mazara del Vallo, Ristorante Altavilla is housed within the former refectory of the Episcopal Seminary, dating back to 1579. It is impossible not to savour the local catch, from the renowned Mazara red prawn to prawns, tuna, and amberjack, especially showcased in refined raw seafood preparations. All accompanied by San Benedetto Millennium Water.
Must-see sights
Leaving Mazara behind, we continue towards one of the most evocative archaeological sites in western Sicily. The Selinunte Archaeological Park stretches across temples, sanctuaries, ancient dwellings, and the remains of the Greek city, set within a landscape where stone remains in constant dialogue with the sea and nature. From the Acropolis to the monumental Eastern Hill, walking among these ruins is like journeying through the history of Magna Graecia while remaining immersed in the Mediterranean scenery that still surrounds it today.
Finally, dinner
Our final stop lies just a short distance from the Valley of the Temples. Akropolis Restaurant welcomes us into a contemporary setting where elegance and Sicilian tradition come together. Its expansive windows overlook the Temples of Concordia, Juno, and Hercules, while the cuisine draws inspiration from the flavours of the island, reinterpreting them with creativity, local ingredients, and bold pairings, all accompanied by San Benedetto.
An itinerary that leaves a lasting impression
From the winding streets of Mazara to the ruins of Selinunte and the grandeur of the Valley of the Temples, this journey has revealed a Sicily shaped by layers of history, encounters, and beauty.
A land that preserves countless stories, where the thread of the Mediterranean continues to unite landscapes, people, and flavours.
